MARTIE DE WET

Martie de Wet is an intuitive abstract painter who lives in the Western Cape, South Africa. She states: “I strive to create an awareness for the importance of nature and its significant influence and interaction with being human”
Martie graduated with a BA Fine Arts from the University of Stellenbosch under the guidance of Prof Larry Scully. She spent her early years using art teaching to inspire young people to express themselves in art at various leading schools. Currently she combines her love for nature and art by doing landscaping with a focus on water-wise and indigenous gardens.
She recently attended a week long hands-on course in abstract painting with a leading tutor and artist in Cape Town and previously spent one year at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town. Her art is mostly abstract but in the same time recognisable within the context of the current theme in which she works. She works in oil and mixed media on canvas.
Her paintings were already exhibited in three solo exhibitions in Windhoek (Namibia), Philadelphia (Western Cape) and Woodstock as well as one combined exhibition in Paarl. Her work mostly feature in private collections and leading art galleries. She is also represented on Instagram.
Martie’s focus will be on bigger canvases reflecting on the qualities of survival and sparkles of hope in nature.
